PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency

Purpose
The purpose of Mobile Infirmary’s Pharmacy Practice (PGY1) pharmacy residency program is to build on the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication‐related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for PGY2 pharmacy residency training.
Program Overview
- Traditional: Three positions offered each year (NMS Code 129413)
- Nontraditional (available for current employees): Two positions offered (NMS Code 129421)
- Eight-week orientation to pharmacy operations and clinical pharmacy consultation services including Epic training, departmental policies, pharmacokinetics, anticoagulation and nutrition support.
- Five-week rotations
- Four weeks designated for project work and holiday coverage

To be considered for acceptance, applicants must submit:
- Curriculum vitae
- Letter of Intent
- Pharmacy school transcript
- (3) completed references
- Proof of U.S. citizenship
Pharmacy Licensure
The resident must present to the Pharmacy Manager (or designee) their Alabama Pharmacist License Certificate and controlled substances registration card. These documents will be posted in the Department of Pharmacy. If the resident is not licensed as a pharmacist in the state of Alabama at the beginning of the residency program, the resident must obtain licensure prior to start of program.
Staffing Requirement
- Every 3rd weekend
- Select holidays (one major holiday)
Required Projects
- Research project
- Medication use evaluation
- Continuing education seminar
- Monograph/class review and/or policy or procedure update and presentation to Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee
