Mobile Infirmary, Thomas Hospital Now Offer Innovative Breast Cancer Screening

Mobile, Ala. – Infirmary Health announces that the Breast Centers at Mobile Infirmary and Thomas Hospital continue to stay on the forefront of breast care by now offering the Invenia™ ABUS 2.0 (Automated Breast Ultrasound System), approved by the Federal Drug Administration for breast cancer screening as an adjunct to mammography for women with dense breast tissue.
“Our goal is to save as many lives from breast cancer as possible,” said Dr. Bryan Jordan, diagnostic radiologist and subspecialist in breast imaging/interventions. “To do that, we utilize every available cutting-edge technology (mammography, ultrasound, MRI) to identify breast cancers at its earliest stage so that it is easily treated if not cured. ABUS is another exam in combination with routine mammography that helps our breast care team do just that.”
The challenge radiologists experience when reading mammograms is that dense tissue can hide some cancers. ABUS provides another survey of the breast tissue through 3D ultrasound. Approximately 40 percent of women have dense tissue. When used along with mammography, it can improve breast cancer detection by 37.5 percent over mammography alone.
The Invenia ABUS 2.0 Whole Breast Ultrasound is FDA-approved for breast cancer screening in the United States as an adjunct to mammography for women with dense breast tissue. A patient’s breast density is noted in a mammogram report sent to their referring physician.
