What is a special care nursery? Dr. Charles Harmon, medical director for Mobile Infirmary's nursery, joined WKRG on Take 5 to discuss this advanced care program.

Infirmary Health has Level II Special Care Nurseries at Mobile Infirmary and Thomas Hospital. This special designation indicates that those nurseries are prepared to care for babies beginning at 32 weeks.

Mobile Infirmary and Thomas Hospital's nurseries are ready to serve all families with routine care and beyond. Babies who are born early will receive additional specialty care from our dedicated team of experts including our neonatologist, neonatal advanced providers and nurses who are specialized and certified in caring for the youngest patients in need.

Charles “Miles” Harmon, M.D. is a neonatologist with Infirmary Health’s birth center teams at Mobile Infirmary and Thomas Hospital. Dr. Harmon is also the medical director of Mobile Infirmary’s nurseries. Together, with George Powers, M.D. and Phillip Gordon, M.D., they provide advanced levels of care for babies in the hospitals' Level II Special Care Nurseries.

For more than 110 years, Infirmary Health’s birth centers have been here for you and your family. We are proud to continue to expand our services to our communities, improving access to care and making the patient experience more seamless for the entire family.
