Thomas Hospital Internal Medicine Resident Program (THIMRP) physician, Dr. Gogo Ibodeng, is the recipient of the prestigious 2023 R13 NIH Early Career Investigator Award from the National Medical Association (NMA) for his work on “Factors Associated With Utilization of Palliative Care Among Hospitalized Patients With Cholangiocarcinoma”. R13 grants provide support for high-quality conferences/scientific meetings that are relevant to the National Institute of Health’s scientific mission and public health. Dr. Ibodeng is now included amongst other R13 NIH Early Career Investigator award recipients from institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Georgia Institute of Technology, Johns Hopkins University, Emory University and the University of California San Francisco.
Dr. Ibodeng’s work on “Factors Associated With Utilization of Palliative Care Among Hospitalized Patients With Cholangiocarcinoma” has also been accepted for a poster presentation at the 2023 NMA Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly in New Orleans. This research was done in collaboration with THIMRP hematology/oncology faculty member Dr. Kannan Thanikachalam. The NMA is the collective voice of African American physicians and the leading force for parity and justice in medicine and the elimination of health disparities. NMA is committed to improving the quality of health among minorities and disadvantaged people through its membership, professional development, events, community health education, advocacy, research, and partnerships with federal and private agencies.
