Thomas Hospital Auxiliary awards health career scholarships to area students

The Thomas Hospital Auxiliary is pleased to award $8,000 in health career scholarships to two Baldwin County residents. Each student received a scholarship valued at $4,000.

Brandace Kennington of Loxley is pursuing a nurse practitioner master’s degree from the University of South Alabama. She is an Infirmary Health employee in the Thomas Hospital Birth Center.

Adam Skelton of Fairhope is pursuing a medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a member of the Thomas Hospital Auxiliary.

These students were chosen based on their academic excellence, financial need, extra-curricular activities and dedication to their goals. Thomas Hospital Auxiliary Health Career Scholarship Committee Chair Rusty Downey and Co-Chair David Younce interviewed and selected this year’s recipients. Since 1999, the Thomas Hospital Auxiliary has awarded 96 scholarships valued at more than $204,000.

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be residents of Baldwin County, enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university as juniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree or in the last year of an associate degree program or in a post-graduate program, and have been accepted into a healthcare program at an accredited college or university. Applications are available in February and due in May.

The scholarships are funded by memorial donations and several fundraisers, including the Auxiliary’s holiday silent art auction and sale of used books and puzzles, which are accepted in the Thomas Hospital Auxiliary office and sold in the hospital lobby.
