National Women's Health Week - 2023

National Women's Health Week - 2023

National Women’s Health Week is a yearly observance that serves as a reminder for women and girls to make their health a priority.

Monday: Heart Disease & Stroke

Men and women share common sets of heart attack and stroke symptoms; however, it has been found that women can experience several more subtle warning signs. For heart attacks, women can experience fainting, indigestion, and extreme fatigue. In the case of strokes, women can show general weakness, disorientation and confusion or memory problems, fatigue and nausea or vomiting. Remember, if you suspect you or someone else is having a heart attack or stroke, call 911. Learn more about Infirmary Health's stroke programs.

Tuesday: Maintain YOUR Health!

We want to remind you to schedule your well-woman visits with your primary care physician, gynecologist or obstetrician. Make your appointment today! Find a physician near you at infirmaryhealth.org/doctors.

Wednesday: Lupus in Women

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease. A lupus diagnosis is more common in women than men and about 9 out of 10 diagnoses of lupus are in women ages 15 to 44. African-American women are also three times more likely to get lupus than Caucasian women. While anyone can have lupus, women need to be aware of the signs and symptoms. Learn more cdc.gov/lupus.

Thursday: Bone Health + Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a bone disease that develops when bone mineral density and bone mass decreases. This can lead to an increased risk of fractures. Osteoperosis can affect men and women of all races, at any age, but your risk increases as you age. It’s never too early to take steps for prevention! Learn more at infirmary.care/osteoporosis.

Friday: Prioritize Your Mental Health

It is important to remember to keep your mind and body healthy by taking time to unwind and enjoy your favorite activities. Some ways that can help you cope with stress include meditation, regular exercise, well-balanced meals, plenty of sleep and connecting with others. Take time each day to prioritize yourself!
