Dr. Adrian DiVittorio recently appeared on Fox10 News during the Making Rounds segment to discuss lung cancer awareness month and the importance of screenings for early detection.

About 1 in 16 men and 1 in 17 women will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetime. If lung cancer is found at an earlier stage, when it is small and before it has spread, it is more likely to be treated successfully. Lung cancer screening is recommended for certain people who smoke or used to smoke, but who don't have any signs or symptoms.

The American Cancer Society recommends yearly screening for lung cancer with a low-dose CT (LDCT) scan for people ages 50 to 80 years who:

  • Smoke or used to smoke

AND

  • Have at least a 20 pack-year history of smoking

Discuss your risk for lung cancer with your primary care provider or schedule an appointment with a pulmonologist for further testing. Find a physician near you at infirmaryhealth.org/doctors.
