Mobile Infirmary Nurse Residency Program First in Alabama to Achieve Practice Transition Accreditation
Mobile, Ala. – Mobile Infirmary proudly announces its Nurse Residency Program has received the distinguished Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This achievement makes Mobile Infirmary’s program the first in Alabama to earn this esteemed accreditation, and it underscores the hospital’s commitment to providing newly licensed registered nurses with the education and support needed to succeed as they transition into professional practice.
The ANCC’s Practice Transition Accreditation Program sets the gold standard for nurse residency programs, recognizing those that foster professional growth and improve patient care. Achieving PTAP accreditation signals that Mobile Infirmary’s Nurse Residency Program meets the national standards for excellence, advancing nursing competence, confidence, and professional development.
“This accreditation highlights our ongoing dedication to support the next generation of nurses and to prepare them to deliver exceptional care to our patients,” said Susan Boudreau, FACHE, president of Mobile Infirmary.
The process of achieving PTAP accreditation involves a thorough review by ANCC evaluators, who focus on key program components such as curriculum, nursing leadership engagement, mentorship opportunities, and outcomes. Mobile Infirmary’s program was recognized for its strong emphasis on professional development, team-based learning, and evidence-based practices.
The ANCC highlighted several strengths of the Mobile Infirmary Nurse Residency Program, including:
- Engaged Nursing Leadership: Active involvement from nursing leadership and the Chief Nursing Officer.
- Simulation Training: Using simulation exercises that encourage collaboration and support team-based learning.
- Mentorship and Preceptorship: A strong mentorship system from experienced nurses who guide and support new graduate nurses.
“We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this program,” said Ursula Lawrence, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for Mobile Infirmary. “Our nurses, clinical educators, and leadership team all play a vital role in making this program a success, and we are grateful for their continued support of our new graduate nurses.”
The Mobile Infirmary Nurse Residency Program, part of Infirmary Health, continues to lead the way in Alabama by providing new nurses with the tools and training they need to succeed in their careers. This prestigious accreditation reinforces the health system’s commitment to advancing the quality of nursing practice and patient care across the region.
