Reproductive Medicine
Infirmary Health’s Center for Reproductive Medicine in Mobile
Several fertility options are available to couples who have exhausted traditional therapies for infertility, suffer from pelvic adhesions or endometriosis, are of advanced reproductive age, or have male factor infertility.
Among the techniques offered at Mobile Infirmary’s In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) Lab are intracytoplasmic injection (ICSI) of one sperm into one egg and prenatal genetic diagnosis.
The IVF Process
The basic steps of IVF include ovulation induction, egg retrieval, insemination, fertilization, embryo culture and embryo transfer. After ovulation induction, the egg retrieval procedure is performed as an outpatient surgical procedure. Once retrieved, the eggs are examined by the embryologist to determine the best candidates for fertilization.
The next steps in the procedure depend on which technique is used to complete the fertilization/placement of the embryo.
The IVF Lab serves the Center for Reproductive Medicine during various techniques of treatment. The procedure room gives the patient all the advantages of having hospital services and staff available during treatment. In the adjoining laboratory, high-tech equipment is used to evaluate harvested eggs and achieve fertilization.
If you are having trouble conceiving Infirmary’s Center for Reproductive Medicine can help.
